When Life Steals Your Lemons

You know that phrase when Life gives you lemons make lemonade? This is great and all, but did you know Life also likes to steal your lemons just for the fun of it? Friends, I have lemons; lots of lemons, actually, in the form of little blessings I neither earned nor asked for but am the grateful recipient of none the less. Like brains. I’ve got a brain, good one too, but sometimes it just stops working, as if Life just decides I think I’d like that one back for a sec. Unfortunately for me, your average human, one second is just too long to be without a good brain. It’s a working progress.
In case you’re feeling down on yourself for whatever reason, tired of making silly decisions and playing the fool and whatnot, let me alleviate some of that weight just a little bit by sharing with you my beautiful moment of lemonless idiocy this week.
You know those days when you have so much going on in your head, the smallest addition just sorta tips you over the edge? At this point in time, my head was so full to bursting with ideas of getting my business off the ground that my brain forgot to switch to driving mode when I got into my car. The garage door rattles open; I turn on the ignition, and backwards I go right into my younger sister’s boyfriend’s car parked in the driveway.
Needless to say, the prayer that ensued took a moment to get further than oh my God----oh my God----oh my God as I was too shocked with disbelief at my own stupidity to form proper thought sentences. Did I really just do what I thought I just did? Yes I did, and He didn’t feel like reversing time for me either (thanks a lot God).
Thankfully, no one was around to add fuel to my humiliation. I jumped out of my vehicle and analyzed the spot on his car. After a quick evaluation and a slight feeling of relief that the damage wasn’t too bad, I returned to my car and proceeded to my appointment.
I really only half----heard what was said as the weight settled on me that I would have to tell both my sister’s boyfriend and my dad, since he technically still owns my vehicle. Oy.
Was I blowing the situation out of proportion? Yeah okay maybe. My imagination likes to be a little drama queen. Still, running into your younger sister’s boyfriend’s car is not a very smooth older sister thing to do. But, if either party felt as upset about the whole situation as I was, they hid it well. Troopers. I don’t hide emotions well. By this I mean not at all. Also a working progress. Though I will say, I am proud of myself for leaving some of my dignity intact during my confessions. Well, one of them at least. I reserved the freakout for the parentals.
So there you have it. No words of wisdom to share today. Except, well, don’t hit people’s cars. I hate it when Life steals my lemons.
